* Raspberries. Pint after pint of red and purpling, juicy fresh falling-from-the-cane-ripe succulent raspberries! We picked about a million berries, give or take, and as the little green containers kept filling we expanded the variety of possibilities for their use. Pie, cordial, jam,... and the remainder? Vodka infusion! Raspberries. When all the containers were full and the bright sun cast long shadows we headed back to the farm for fresh cider doughnuts and vegetable-shopping. But the trip back through the canes yielded even more berries. What do do, except devour a few handfuls still warm from the sun? Each soft cluster explodes with tart and sweet liquor in the mouth. Bliss.

* Young's Double Chocolate Stout on draught. Mmmmm...

Also mouth-watering, though not as blissful as the berries. )

* Interviewers who say, "you're overqualified for these three, but I'm also hiring for..." and then tell you something encouraging.

* Harpstrings for a dollar each, plus the time it takes to empty and re-sort the spaghetti-tangle of a bin that holds them, minus the counter guy's employee discount because I went to the trouble to do it. I hope Wood & Strings in Arlington makes up in income what they give away in courtesy.

* The gift of clean strings, pure tones and an evening spent at Wood & Strings, courtesy of my Lady.

* basil permeating one room, and Nag -- unlit -- another

* spinning Google Earth to find Somerville then fly down the coast to Va Beach, then across the country and the Maumee to Toledo

Massachusetts Youth Pride Rally
noon on Saturday, May 21, 2005
Boston Common
Parkman Bandstand

Youth Pride is geared to the under-21 set, who by and large won't notice the existence of anyone over 30. It's also a good place to see: local bands and national speakers, visit the booths of queer-enthusiastic companies, colleges, and universities who show up to recruit, and add your support to tens of thousands of bright-plumed and energized young people.

* Or save it up for Boston Pride. :)

* In completely unrelated news, I discovered this 1997 link while Googling Boston's annual Youth Pride rally. I read the article, thinking it would provide some "know and mock thine enemy" satisfaction. In the end all it did was make me proud of the strength and dignity of queer youth and reassure me of the strength of progress in our community.

excerpt )

Yeah, it did give me a good chuckle. Which means I should probably read it again, and take notes.

Happy Pride Week!

* Tracy Grammer's birthday and CD release concert at Club Passim with my Lady and fellow coveners. :) Dave's music and poetry were transcendent as expected -- and it's weird to expect transcendence that then delivers, but there you are -- with two musicians and voices. We wondered how it is that Tracy is able to perform some of the more obvious elegies, including the one she herself wrote for Dave, without dissolving into tears. *shiver*

Flower of Avalon shines, but not brightly; it's overproduced. "Preston Miller" survived, but only "Phantom Doll" exceeds with the supporting instruments and arrangement.

* 'Hey Ho', by Dave Carter )

* The April Demo.
April Demo )
At the Parkman Bandstand, 50-75 dedicated Carolingians, including His Excellency [livejournal.com profile] jdulac, [livejournal.com profile] liamstliam, [livejournal.com profile] mermaidlady, [livejournal.com profile] lakshmiamman, [livejournal.com profile] new_man, [livejournal.com profile] learnedax, [livejournal.com profile] tpau, [livejournal.com profile] pamelina, [livejournal.com profile] jducoeur etc., etc.... showed our best and brightest arts martial, creative, and practical to Boston at large. Hundreds of parambulators took fliers and even more stopped to visit guild tables, watch fighting, and participate in dancing. My Lady and I are exhausted and happy.

EDIT:
Special thanks are due to [livejournal.com profile] evilnicola, who kept us sane and happy throughout the entire event with relentless good cheer and industrious assistance. Without her help we would surely have perished dead away from loneliness and attention-starvation. What a gal.
